If we could boil the ocean to get to the core of our value proposition it is this:

We distillers can navigate the PEO market with the knowledge of decades of experience to get you to a modern, efficient HR solution at the right price without all the hidden costs PEOs are so so good at sneaking into contracts.

Around our office we analogize the current state of the PEO space to the rise of the solar industry.  Allow me to explain:

Photovoltaic panels were a brilliant invention.  Upon their invention we could turn our roofs into mini power plants in a completely sustainable and self sufficient way for much of the continental US.  It was brilliant.  Nuclear power, where the power plant was 8 light minutes away in space!  How could anyone object?!  Surely this will be on the roof of every feasible roof in no time right?!  Well…. Sort of…

Unfortunately with any good idea comes  a few challenges:

  1. Disruption to the status quo takes time
  2. A million sales people are going to find a way to predate on consumers
  3. Certain government entities just don’t like solar because their constituents count on the industry failing

To name a few.

PEO struggles with similar issues.  It’s brilliant.  At it’s core why would you not want your HR/Payroll/Benefits/401K/Time-keeping/Tax/Compliance/etc. all in one system with the ability to outsource administrative tasks to a third party that specializes in administrative tasks?

Unfortunately with any good idea comes a few challenges:

  1. Disruption of the status quo (payroll vendors, brokers, best of breed solutions) takes time.
  2. A million PEO sales reps are out there in your inbox spewing falsity faster than you can debunk it, sneaking fees in with the taxes, smuggling out money with the benefits pricing, and sometimes even going so far as to outright break the law with arbitrage plays.
  3. Some states just don’t play nice with PEOs and each state regulates them slightly differently… the result is “rockier than it should be” relationships with clients that get surprised when they find out Washington won’t let a PEO register for Worker’s Comp or when Ohio sends a nastygram saying we want our taxes even though the PEO has been remitting them for months…

At the end of the day, like solar, PEO is an idea too good to not explore.  But you should get help while you do it!  Which is where we come in.
